How we help

Many people facing a legal problem don’t know where to start, or even that the law might be on their side. There aren’t enough lawyers for everyone who needs legal help, and most lawyers are too expensive for most people. But many legal problems shouldn’t require a lawyer.

Making legal information, court processes, and forms easier to understand removes barriers to justice – and that’s what Washington Law Help (WLH) does.

WLH is a free online library, managed by Northwest Justice Project. It offers attorney-reviewed fast facts and guides on the most common civil legal problems. They come in plain language and in multiple formats, including audio and video. They turn complex procedures into practical steps people can take on their own.

WLH includes WA Forms Online, where people answer guided questions to prepare legal forms for common court and life-planning needs, including:

  • Asking a court to waive filing fees
  • Filing for or responding to a divorce
  • Creating a parenting plan
  • Seeking a protection order
  • Answering a debt-collection lawsuit
  • Preparing powers of attorney and advance directives
  • Writing letters about rental housing problems

1.4 million

Resources visited by over half a million people on Washington Law Help in 2025.

A single guide or form interview can help thousands of people understand their options and take action. That lets us reach far more people than direct representation alone, and expands the reach of the entire access-to-justice system in Washington state.

Amazing, demystifying, helpful, unbelievably focusing for an emotionally punishing task, thank you.
