“Navigating disability benefits after being released from prison seemed impossible. After 10 years, so much has changed. I was ready to move on with a quiet life in retirement and Northwest Justice Project helped me navigate new beginnings.
I was living with my daughter in Seattle. My only income was from Social Security and disability insurance. My budget was tight. Northwest Justice Project helped me resolve some previous debts so I could find a place to live and get back to my life. The support was amazing. From the point of almost giving up to getting some encouraging words – or having someone help you by taking care of just one issue – the experience was wonderful. My NJP attorney really listened to me. Now I can focus on rebuilding my life and spending time with my daughter.
There are people who get out of prison and are back in two weeks because they just give up. They say, “I’m home, boys, I couldn’t do it.” Not me. I am enjoying a retirement lifestyle. I spend a lot of time picking wild strawberries. It’s very peaceful.”
