“For nearly 15 years the small mobile home, that my former husband abandoned me in, was falling apart. I couldn’t get help because I didn’t own it. Turns out no one did! My home was officially “abandoned.”
The furnace had broken and I had no heat or air conditioning for several years. There were leaks in the roof and windows were held in place by screws. I spent years trying to get it all fixed, but I couldn’t get help because I didn’t have a title for the home.
I tried to get help from King County for repairs but without a title, my application was rejected. Ultimately, I found my way to NJP. My attorney became my relentless guardian angel. He helped me successfully re-apply for the county Housing Authority’s Repair and Weatherization Programs.
Now I have a new furnace, windows, roof, and insulation. Having heat and AC saved my life. The winter chill and the summer’s unprecedented heatwave simply would have killed me. Thanks to NJP, I’m now a happy camper! Finally, at 74 years old, I am in a comfortable situation.”
